Advertising education is the first step toward maximizing talent and polishing skills for tomorrow’s employees. The Alabama Advertising Education Foundation awards scholarships so the state’s brightest and most talented students can continue their studies. It also offers them opportunities to work in competitive situations that offer realistic views of advertising careers. Contributions from advertising clubs, individuals and corporations make it possible for AAEF to realize these goals.

What is the AAEF?

The Alabama Advertising Education Foundation is a non-profit corporation recognized by the IRS under sections 501(a) and 503(c)3. While the Foundation was incorporated in 1990 to further promote understanding and knowledge of advertising and its role in the economy and society, Alabama’s advertising federations originally established the scholarship program and have been providing scholarships since 1986. Nearly $32,000 in scholarships and grants has been awarded to date. The foundation has three components:

Scholarship Program – funds scholarships to students majoring in advertising and related fields at four-year colleges and universities in Alabama affiliated with the American Advertising Federation. Each year, 90 percent of this fund’s annual earnings are available for scholarships while the remaining 10 percent is reinvested. Scholarships have gone to students at Alabama State University, Auburn University, Spring Hill College, Samford University, Troy State University, University of Alabama, and University of North Alabama.

Ad Team Fund – contributes funds to student teams from Alabama colleges and universities affiliated with the American Advertising Federation which win the 7th District competition and represent the district in the national competition. Schools qualifying in 2017 include the University of Alabama (UA) at Tuscaloosa, the University of South Alabama (USA), Athens State University, and Samford University.

Alabama Advertising Hall of Fame – recognizes individuals associated with Alabama who have contributed significantly to the profession.

Who Benefits?

Students majoring in advertising or related fields at four-year colleges and universities in Alabama receive individual scholarships and ad team grants. But the real winners are the individuals and companies supporting the AAEF and hiring graduates to get the biggest reward. Their investment in advertising education can pay off for years.

Who Can Contribute?

Contributions to the Alabama Advertising Education Foundation come from individuals, companies and from advertising federations and other organizations. A contribution of any amount may be made to the general fund, leaving the decision of its use to the AAEF board of directors or designated for scholarships, ad teams or hall of fame. Advertising federations throughout Alabama pledge contributions to AAEF funds each year. Gifts to the AAEF are a meaningful way to honor achievements or remember educators and colleagues.
